In a statement carried by Mehr News Agency, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council confirmed the assassination of Ali Larijani, following earlier claims by Israel that it had killed the senior official in targeted strikes.
“After a lifetime of striving for the elevation of Iran and the Islamic Revolution, he finally reached his long-cherished wish, answered the call of truth, and proudly attained the blessed rank of martyrdom in the service front,” the council said.

Larijani was one of the most prominent figures in Iran’s political establishment, having served as Speaker of Parliament from 2008 to 2020 and previously as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. Known as a key strategist with deep ties to the state’s security apparatus, he also played a central role in Iran’s nuclear negotiations in the mid-2000s and remained an influential advisor within the country’s leadership.
The council said Larijani died alongside his son and several others in an attack.
