ILPS El Salvador condemns the arrest of 8 trade unionists
Eight unionists were prosecuted yesterday, September 9, for protesting for the judicial body to give all the bio-protection inputs and protocols that the workers need amid COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to that union struggle, the health and life of users and workers of the different units of that state organ were protected.
After the protest actions, authorities lashed judicially at eight union managers (including three Secretary Generals of the Sinejus, Sejes – June 30 and Sittoj) accusing them of aggravated public disorders.
This is an attack against Salvadoran unionism. The ILPS El Salvador, with the Salvadoran Union Coordinator, stand firm that there was no crime committed by the unionists and that the arrests by authorities (magistrates, judicial table and Attorney General of the Republic) were clear violations on labor, constitutional and international ILO agreements. ###
