Salvadorans protested yesterday to demand the signing of the Escazu agreement by President Nayib Bukele. The Escazú Agreement is the first environmental human rights treaty in Latin America and the Caribbean. After a negotiation that lasted for about six year,s the agreement was approved in March 2018. It promotes access to information, citizen participation, access to justice in environmental matters, all under the Principle 10 of the 1992 Rio Declaration on Environment and Development.

The Salvadoran president refused to sign the agreement yesterday, as the Salvadorans said, due to his commitment to big capital than his duty to ensure the right of the citizens for a healthy environment and sustainable development.
