Vancouver, BC (Nov 7) — In memory of revolutionary leader Jorge “Ka Oris” Madlos, members of the Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS) Vancouver organized flash action at the Joyce Skytrain Station to honour his life and his legacy of commitment to the righteous struggle of the people of the Philippines. The FFPS members wheat-pasted memorial posters with the words “Ka Oris Lives On!” around the large pillar of the skytrain station.

Last October 29th, in the province of Bukidnon, Ka Oris and his medical aide Ka Pika
were murdered in cold blood by the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The FFPS condemned the killing and called it a “spineless act” as both Ka Oris and Ka Pika were unarmed. They cited Ka Oris’s “five decades of revolutionary activity” as an inspiration to their own work here in so called Canada. Their statement (see full statement and photos below) read:

“As anti-imperialists, we understand the significance of standing in solidarity with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines and the Communist Party of the Philippines. We also recognize the importance of advancing anti-imperialist struggle from within the heart of imperialism here in the illegitimate colonial state of Canada”.

While Ka Oris dedicated his life to the movement in the Philippines, his work was also firmly rooted in the international struggle of the proletariat. He will surely be missed by revolutionaries world wide..

FFPS FULL STATEMENT
Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle Vancouver honours revolutionary leader Ka Oris.

We conderm the assassination of revolutionary leader Ka Oris and medic Ka PiKa by the AFP on October 29th, 2021. Ka Oris and Ka Pica were ambushed by the Philippine Army on their way to seek medical treatment for Ka Oris. They were unarmed despite the facist Duterte regime’s false reports of a shoot out with the 403rd infantry brigade. After murdering our two comrades the military cremated Ka Oris’s body before his family was able to see and claim his remains for burial. Such a spineless act is an attempt to cover up his assassination and deprive Ka Oris’s wife and revolutionary leader Ka Maria Malaya and his children the chance to bury their loved one.

Ka Oris was targeted because he was a strong leader of people’s war, a dedicated and respected revolutionary, and an inspiration to many. At 74 years old, he was an active commander in the New People’s Army, a Central Committee member of the Communist Party of the Philippines, and a consultant in the National Democratic Front of the Philippines peace negotiations with the Philippine government. Ka Oris dedicated his life to the righteous struggle of the Filipino people against aggressive US imperialism, exploitative bureaucrat capitalism, and oppressive semi feudalism. He is a martyr whose memory lives on.

Friends of the Filipino people in Struggle Vancouver is deeply inspired by Ka Oris’s five (5)
decades of revolutionary activity, and we are grateful for the leadership and contributions he has made to advance the struggle of the Filipino people. As anti-imperialists, we understand the significance of standing in solidarity with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines and the Communist Party of the Philippines. We also recognize the importance of advancing anti-imperialist struggle from within the heart of imperialism here in the illegitimate colonial state of Canada. Let Ka Oris’s memory deepen our commitment to revolutionary struggle and organizing on unceded Coast Salish territories. We raise our fists in comradely salute and affirm the righteous war that Ka Oris sacrificed his life for.

LONG LIVE KA ORIS, LONG LIVE THE NEW PEOPLE’S ARMY, LONG LIVE INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY!
